[Event] UCSF Partners with Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu for Unlock Art Programme

Nature Inspiration Art Gallery (NIAG) has been selected as Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu's partner for its Unlock Art programme to unlock the rich traditions, inspirations and diverse culture found in Sabah.

The Nature Inspiration Art Gallery (NIAG) is a gallery set up by University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) in 2014, as an extension to manifest its Green Concept and Philosophy's vision of preserving the rich cultural identities and heritage of the people of Sabah, and conserving the rich habitat and habitant of Sabah's vast natural surroundings, which remains prestige and natural.

The exhibits are renditions of Sabah's magnificent panorama, livelihood, belief and tradition of Sabah.  They bring to prominence the enchanting beauty of Sabah, its people and nature.

The display of the artwork in the gallery comes in the forms of arts, crafts, sculpture represent the true and authentic essence captured by the artistic talents of Sabah, especially the young talent of Sabahan artists.  Through these, NIAG wishes to engage the public and the wider community to appreciate the rich features of Sabah's indigenous diversity of cultures which have evolved in harmony with nature despite the bustling and hustling influence of development and modernization.

It is also at NIAG, one will be able to savour the unique artwork of Botanic Batik, a traditional cloth making craft which NIAG is revitalizing.  This is where the cloth is dyed using natural organic dyes, producing artistic handwork that is earthly, natural and beautiful.  To date, an array of colorants are extracted from tropical plants from leaves of mangoes, jackfruit and indigo; fruits of mangosteen; barks of mangroves and many more.  This was so interesting I would wanna join their course if there's any.

"The establishment of NIAG in UCSF is more as a social platform but with features of sustainability.  The main focus is to ensure its social duty of promoting, preserving, conserving and advancing the cultural heritage and contemporary artistic values of the multi-ethnic groups of Sabah through the NIAG's thriving art.  It will be an immersive experience to the visitors and guests by experiencing the arts and understanding the local cultures and traditions of Sabah."  said UCSF's Vice Chancellor, Dr Mohamed Hleem bin Mohamed Razi.  He also added that UCSF was delighted that the gallery was recognized by Le Meridien and look forward to building on the success of partnership with more prestigious global brands.

Le Meridien celebrates the glamour of travel; inspiring guests to be uplifted and savour the good life.  The Unlock Art™ programme introduces creative and curious minded travellers to stimulating and inspiring experiences that the destination has to offer inside and out of the hotel.  This programme is a unique partnership to provide access to hotel guests to contemporary art and cultural centres around the world, and the partnership with NIAG, will "unlock" the art and cultural scene in Sabah.

According to the General Manager of Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu, Kanit Sangmookda, Le Meridien's hotel key card unlocks more than just the hotel rooms as it also unlocks the access to inspiring art and cultural centres in the destination they are visiting.  "We hope this partnership with University College Sabah Foundation will "unlock"the art and cultural scene in Sabah and at the same time support the local art communities to thrive through our promotional platforms.  We want our guests to experience the local destination through arts, culture and local folklores", he added.

Guests staying with Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu will be able to access Nature Inspiration Art Gallery for free by displaying the room key cards upon entry to the gallery.

The gallery is open on weekdays from 9am to 5pm.  More enquiries, via University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF), please contact 6088-511 111.
