[Activities] Coral Flyer Zipline - The Worlds Longest Island to Island Zipline

Ever since I saw Jaco's post about Kota Kinabalu Coral Flyer between island on G+, I have been wanting to go.  It was open for public on 10th May 2014.  I was ecstatic!  Well, I initially wanted to go try Zip Borneo at Kiulu but no friends to go with.  I have organized misc events for my group of friends but sometimes it's just not gonna happen.  Just like trying out indoor climbing.  Mind you, if you knew me then (when my self confidence is below zero), I'm the type of person who is afraid of heights and it would take me more than 10x the amount of thinking which leads to doubts which in the end I won't do it.  I'm have and still is making changes with my life this year by trying out new things (more like clearing off some bucket list) so totally feeling it!

Thanks to Beverly for "pulling some strings" and arrange for everyone to go.  Excited and nervous at the same time.  There's over 10 people, 14 to be exact, who's on this trip, including myself.  Excited cause it's my first time ziplining, nervous probably cause I'm always nervous around strangers lol.  But that's just me.  I probably know a handful of people (or not?) who's going.  Slept at almost midnight, set my alarm to 4:30am (I think I got used to waking up at 4am on a Sunday morning, that I automatically woke up at that hour, I think I actually woke up at 3am and tried to sleep back till 5:30am).  Double check some of my stuff and off to Jesselton Point jetty to meet up with everyone.

Oh yeah, before I get to that, my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone died on me yesterday after I updated facebook application.  I didn't do most of the backup!  Thank god I already backup most of my recent photos, but I sort of lost some! FML! I tried to do the usual fix but nothing seems to work.  I'm lucky to have a dad who's into gadgetry stuff like me hee~ I have a temporary phone with just 1GB storage (I'm gonna die!!!).

Vending machine!  I would be happier if they have this all over town!  I miss Osaka, Japan!

Now back to where was I?  Oh yeah, I arrived at the jetty at 8:30am and met up with Bev and her friend Faizal having breakfast.  Met up with everyone else and waited for the remaining peeps at the ticketing hall till 9:40am.  RM21.50 per person to Sapi Island (first timer! I only been to Manukan Island, probably 2 years ago?) via Island Express.

13 people woot?! 11 bloggers + 2 friends.

Arrived Sapi Island at 10am with the zipline view from afar. *squint.

I don't know if you can see it, this is the view from Sapi Island jetty.  Upon arrival mode.  That in between island with lines.

Welcome to Sapi Island!!! The second smallest island in the marine park, located across a calm 100 meter inlet at its western section from Pulau Gaya.  A nice place to snorkel, I can see fishes! Clear waters yay!

Entry fee: RM3 for locals.

Registration for Coral Flyer Zipline.  Bev checking us in.  The Coral Flyer Zipline is RM50 per entry.  Sponsored!  The owner at the counter, Simon.

Some documents to fill in.

And we're set!

You must be wondering what you should wear right?  You can wear anything, as long as you're comfortable.  Go in your bikini also can.  But wear shoes/sandals cause you'll need to hike to the starting point.

Camp ourselves at one of the place and decide who want to go first.  I initially wanted to go with the second group but might as well go first.  Informed the counter and the staff will arrange for the boat.  The boatman will take us to Padang Point, where the starting point is.

We reached Padang Point!

Don't worry, you won't get lost there, follow the markers/signage.

You'll need these for safety purposes.

Full body harness and helmet.  Don't worry if you don't know how to put it on.  The staff will help you.

They will help you take group photo also.  Thanks Roy.

Now, once you're done with that, hike up to the starting platform.  I could run with hiking shoes! But I was wearing slipper.

At the platform catching our breath.  The view ahhhh~ so nice.  Coral Flyer allows for the flying fox experience to be enjoyed in pairs as two (2) people, flying on separate ziplines at the same time.

Sherrie and Margaret went first.  Two (2) of the staff will check your gear again, make sure you're secured and hook you up to the trolley.  They will also brief you on how to prevent your head from hitting the trolley.

This is how the trolley looks like.

For those with camera, can put your strap around your neck or arm to capture the moment, snaps or videos.

Ready?  Now lean back and enjoy your ride!

Woohoo! 235 metres of fun!  This would probably take few minutes, it doesn't feel long with the recorded speed of 55km/h.  How high is that thing?  I remember Bev had a drawing of it when we were waiting for our boat ride back to mainland.  It's 45 metres from starting point and 10 metres at the ending point. Definitely thrilled to do it again.  What happen to being afraid of heights Massy?  IONO (I don't know).

At the end of the line, the staff will pull you in to the ending platform.

I was nervous at first, at the start point, I couldn't scream, it felt like my heart dropped into coral reef, but as it went down faster, I was screaming like no tomorrow lol.  You could actually let go of your hand from the handle but you'll be spinning around, I tried letting one of my hand go and I was turning a bit and decided to just hold on to both hahaha.  A friend took a video of me, I must've look silly.  But it was fun! I wanna do it again! Lets go again!

Feeling when reaching, pull me back in!  Harness was almost tight, it's suppose to be a bit tight cause it'll loosen up a bit as you go down.  I was feeling it around my crotch area (I think I need more meat, I'm almost bones lol and I had a previous injury on my left side), my other friends doesn't seem to have this problem so I guess it's just me.  I was told that we might get bruises from that strap but nope, no bruises so need not worry about that.

An advanced, high-tech ZipStop breaking system from the USA ensures a safe stop at the bottom of Coral Flyer regardless of what speed you might be traveling at.

I took a video of strangers who went after us to let you get the feel of it.

And if you want your friends to take videos or snapshots of you ziplining, they can hike up to the ending platform from Sapi Island trail.  We know we could do it just that we didn't know how to get there.

Hike down, no steps, just trail.

Came back and went swimming!  Okay more like dipping.

If you wanna learn more about Coral Flyer Island to Island Zipline, do visit their facebook page, here.

Last but not least, I would like to thank Coral Flyer Zipline team for having us and the awesome people that I went with on this trip, Beverly, Margaret, Murphy, Faisal, Derrick, Meitzeu, Chloe, Hayden, Calista, Ana, Sherrie, Tom and Charlotte.   I hope I got everyone's name correctly.  You guys are awesome!

Fishies making me nervous!  IT'S GONNA RAIN!!!

We left at around 3pm back to mainland and it rained.  OMFrigging waves! Reached safely, Amen!

I actually was excited that I wanted to go running right after that but decided not to.  Does not want to exhaust myself.  I did some stretches instead.

Looking forward to doing it again in the future.  I hope I didn't miss out any info.  if you have any question/s, feel free to ask.  Sorry for grammatical error, typos and whatnot, thank you for reading.  Hehe~
